Writing the formation reaction

$4 \text{C} \left(\text{s}\right) + 4 \text{H} \left(\text{g}\right) + \text{O} \left(\text{g}\right) \rightarrow \left(\text{C}\right)_{4} \left(\text{H}\right)_{4} \text{O} \left(\text{g}\right)$

$\Delta \text{H}_{\text{f}}^{^\circ } = - 6 2 \cdot 0 = \text{Σ}_{\text{reac}} \text{BE} - \text{Σ}_{\text{product}} \text{BE}$

$\text{Σ}_{\text{product}} \text{ BE} = \text{Σ}_{\text{reac}} \text{BE} + 6 2 \cdot 0$

$= 4 \times 7 1 7 + 4 \times 2 1 8 + 2 4 9 + 6 2$

$= 2 8 6 8 + 8 7 2 + 2 4 9 + 6 2 = 4 0 5 1 \text{ KJ} \text{ mol}^{- 1}$

$\text{Σ}_{\text{product}} \text{ BE}$ is heat of atomization of product into isolated gaseous atoms.
