Q. By passing electric current, $NaClO_3$ is converted into $NaClO_4$ according to the following equation
$Na ClO_3 + H_2 O -> NaClO_4 + H_2$
How many moles of $NaClO_4$ will be formed when three Faradays of charge is passed through $NaClO_3$ ?

KCETKCET 2017Electrochemistry

Solution:

$\underset{(+5)}{NaClO _{3}}+ H _{2} O \to \underset{(+7)}{NaClO _{4}}+ H _{2}$

2F charges required for give 2 moles of electrons therefore $3F$ of charge give $=\frac{3}{2}=15$ moles of electrons.

Hence, $1.5$ moles of $NaClO _{4}$ will be formed.
