Q. Brick-red colour in Benedict's test indicates_________percent diabetes patient

COMEDKCOMEDK 2010Chemical Coordination and Integration

Solution:

Benedict's test is used to detect the presence of reducing sugar in the urine of diabetic person. To about 5 mL of Benedict's reagent, add 0.5 mL (8 drops) of urine and boil for 2 minutes. A light green/yellow/ brick red precipitate indicates the presence of reducing sugar in urine. The intensity of colour depends upon percentage of sugar in urine. Brick red colour in Benedict's test indicates 2% or more of sugar in the urine.
