Q. Bond energy is highest for

AMUAMU 2003

Solution:

In a group from top to bottom the strength of $M - M$ bond decreases due to increase in the size of the atom.
In the group $14$ elements $(C, Si, Ge, Sn)$, the size of the atomic radius is in the order of $Sn > Ge > Si > C$. The size of the carbon is smallest in the group therefore, bond energy is highest for $C - C$. The energies of various bonds are following
