Solution:

All compounds containing peptide linkage $ (-CO\cdot NH-) $ give respond to Biuret test. For example, urea and proteins. Biuret test for urea: On heating, urea loses $ N{{H}_{3}} $ and forms solid biuret. This is dissolved in the least amount of water and made alkaline by adding a few drops of sodium hydroxide. The alkaline solution, when treated with $ 1-2 $ drops of dilute $ CuS{{O}_{4}} $ solution, gives a violet colour. This test is known as Biuret test.
