Q. Biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) in a river water

Environmental Issues

Solution:

$BOD$ is the oxygen in mg required for $5$ days in one litre of water at $20^{\circ} C$ for the microorganisms to metabolise organic waste. $BOD$ in a river water will increase when sewage gets mixed with river water because decomposer organisms will consume a lot of oxygen.
