Q. Benzyl amine may be prepared by
(1) $C _{6} H _{5} CONH _{2} \xrightarrow{ LiAlH _{4} / \text { ether }} $
(2) $C _{6} H _{5} CN \xrightarrow{ LiAlH _{4} / \text { ether }} $
(3) $C _{6} H _{5} CONH _{2} \xrightarrow{ NaOH + Br _{2}}$
(4) $C _{6} H _{5} NO _{2} \xrightarrow{ Sn / HCl }$

Solution:

(1) $C _{6} H _{5} CONH _{2} \xrightarrow{ LiAlH _{4} / \text { ether }} \underset{\text{benzyl amine}}{C _{6} H _{5} CH _{2} NH _{2}}$
(2) $C _{6} H _{5} CN \xrightarrow{ LiAlH _{4} / \text { ether }} \underset{\text{benzyl amine}}{C _{6} H _{5} CH _{2} NH _{2}}$
(3) $C _{6} H _{5} CONH _{2} \xrightarrow{ NaOH + Br _{2}} \underset{\text{aniline}}{C _{6} H _{5} NH _{2}}$
(4) $C _{6} H _{5} NO _{2} \xrightarrow{ Sn / HCl }\underset{\text{aniline}}{C _{6} H _{5} NH _{2}}$
Hence,-reaction $(1)$ and $(2) $ are used to prepare benzvl amine.
