Q. Benzene $(C_{6}H_{6}, 78 g/mol)$ and toluene $(C_{7}H_{8}, 92\,g/mol)$ form an ideal solution At $60^{\circ}C$ the vapour pressure of pure benzene and pure toluene are 0.507 atm and 0.184, respectively. The mole fraction of benzene in a solution of these two chemicals that has a vapour pressure of $0.350$ atm at $60^{\circ}$

Solutions

Solution:

$0.35=0.507 \times X_{B}+0.184 \times X_{t} \dots (1)$
$X_{B}+X_{t}=1 \dots (2)$
On solving equations (1) and (2), we get
$X_{B}=0.514$
