Beadle and Tatum $(1941)$ worked on Neurospora crassa and proposed one gene one enzyme hypothesis. For their excellent work they were awarded Nobel Prize in $1958$. According to one gene one enzyme hypothesis one gene code for one protein (enzyme) which catalyze one biochemical reaction.
