Q. Bacterial ribosomes are present

JIPMERJIPMER 2010Biological Classification

Solution:

Bacterial ribosomes are smal submicroscopic ribonucleoprotein entities having a size of 20 nm × 14 - 15 nm and sedimentation coefficient of 70 S. They are of two type - free and fixed. Fixed ribosomes are attached to plasma membrane while free ribosomes are found in cytoplasmic matrix. As bacteria are prokaryotes, ER and nucleus are absent.
