Q. Assertion : Two non-ideal batteries are connected in parallel. The equivalent emf is smaller than either of the two emfs.
Reason : The equivalent internal resistance is smaller than either of the two internal resistances.

Current Electricity

Solution:

The equivalent $e m f$ of the two batteries in parallel,
$e=\left(\frac{e_1 r_2+r_2 r_1}{r_1+r_2}\right) \cdot e$ may be; $e_1 \leq e \leq e_2$.
Internal resistance, $r=\left(\frac{r_1 r_2}{r_1+r_2}\right)$.
This value is smaller than either of $r_1$ and $r_2$.
