Q. Assertion There is no current in the metals in the absence of electric field.
Reason Motion of free electrons are randomly.

AIIMSAIIMS 2014

Solution:

It is clear that electrons move in all direction haphazardly in metals. When an electric field is applied, each free electron acquire a drift velocity. These is a let flow of charge, which constitute, current. In the absence, if electric field this is impossible, and hence, these is no current.
