Q. Assertion: The sun looks bigger in size at sunrise and sunset than during day.
Reason: The phenomenon of diffraction bends light rays.

AIIMSAIIMS 1995Wave Optics

Solution:

During sunrise and sunset, the ray of light from the sun has to travel a longer distance to reach the eyes. As only longer wavelengths can reach the eyes, the angle subtended by the rays of light on the retina is greater than that during the day. That’s why the sun looks bigger during sunrise and sunset.
