Q. Assertion: The resistivity of a semiconductor increases with temperature.
Reason: The atoms of a semiconductor vibrate with large amplitude at higher temperatures there by increasing its resistivity.

AIIMSAIIMS 2003Semiconductor Electronics: Materials Devices and Simple Circuits

Solution:

Solids whose electrical conductivity is intermediate between conductor and insulators are called semiconductor. Carbon, silicon and germanium are example of semiconductors. The temperature coefficient of resistance of semiconductors is negative that is their electrical resistance decreases ( or conductivity increases) with rise in temperature.
