Q. Assertion : The density of water remains constant as it is cooled from room temperature until its temperature reaches $4^{\circ}C$.
Reason : Below $4^{\circ}C$, the density increases.

Thermal Properties of Matter

Solution:

The volume of water decreases when water is cooled from room temperature, until its temperature reaches $4^{\circ}C$ and hence density increases. Below $4^{\circ}C$, the volume increases and therefore, the density decreases.
