AIIMSAIIMS 2019Alcohols Phenols and Ethers

Solution:

As the phenoxide ion $\left( C _{6} H _{5}- O ^{-}\right)$is a better nucleophile than phenol $\left( C _{6} H _{5}- OH \right)$, it reacts with $CH _{3}I$ in presence of $NaOH$ to form methoxybenzene.
