Defensive or protective mimicry takes place when organisms are able to avoid harmful encounters by deceiving enemies into treating them as something else. In Batesian mimicry, a harmless species poses as harmful to deceive predator. In Mullerian mimicry, two or more harmful species mutually advertise themselves as harmful for their mutual benifit. Viceroy butterfly mimics unpalatable toxic Monarch butterfly, thus, shows Batesian mimicry.
