Q. Assertion In the field of geometrical optics, light can in assumed to approximately travel in straight line.
Reason The wavelength of visible light is very small in comparison to the dimensions of typical mirrors and lenses, then light can be assumed to approximately travel in straight line.

Wave Optics

Solution:

The branch of optics in which one completely neglects the finiteness of the wavelength is called geometrical optics. The wavelength of light is very small as compared to the dimensions of objects (such as mirror, lenses etc.) and hence, it can be neglected and assumed to travel in a straight line.
