Here assertion is false but reason is true and the acceleration of the particle is given by
$| a |=\sqrt{a_{c}^{2}+a_{t}^{2}}$ (i.e., vector sum)
where $a_{c}=$ centripetal acceleration and
$a_{t}=$ tangential acceleration.
