Q. Assertion Glycolysis begins in cytoplasm and yields two molecules of pyruvate.
Reason During glycolysis, four ATP molecules are produced and net yield is only two ATP molecules.

AIIMSAIIMS 2010

Solution:

Glycolysis is the oxidation of glucose to pyruvate. One glucose molecule (six carbon atoms) is broken down into two molecules of pyruvate (three carbon atoms). It occurs in cytoplasm. During glycolysis, four ATP molecules are produced and net yield is only two ATP molecules.
