Q. Assertion: Enzymes are proteins which catalyse biochemical reactions. Reason: The enzymes itself unchanged in the reaction, its presence allows the reaction to take place.

VMMC MedicalVMMC Medical 2008

Solution:

Enzyme is a biomolecule either protein or RNA (eg, Ribozyme) that catalyses a specific chemical reaction. It does not affect the equilibrium of the catalyzed reaction. It enhances the rate of a reaction by providing a reaction path with a lower activation energy. The enzyme itself remains unchanged after reaction.
