Q. Assertion: Displacement current goes through the gap between the plates of a capacitor when the charge of the capacitor does not change.
Reason: The displacement current arises in the region in which the electric field and hence the electric flux does not change with time.

AIIMSAIIMS 2008

Solution:

Displacement current is not the current produced due to charge carriers but it is due to varying electric flux with time. It is the current in the sense that it produces a magnetic field.
The displacement current is given by
$I_{d}=\varepsilon_{0} \frac{d \phi_{E}}{d t}$
It will happen when charge on capacitor does not remain constant but changes with time.
