Q. Assertion: Cyanobacteria are photosynthetic, blue green algae with all the prokaryotic structures.
Reason: They are green due to presence of chloroplasts.

AIIMSAIIMS 2000

Solution:

Cyanobacteria are autotrophic in nature. Photosynthetic pigments include chlorophyll a, carotenoids and phycobilins. Photosynthetic thylakoids occur freely in the outer part of protoplast called chromoplasm. Cyanobacteria are prokaryotic due to lack of membrane bound cell organelles (chloroplast, etc.) and distinct nucleus.
