Q. Assertion (A) High carbon monoxide $(CO) $ levels can kill a person.
Reason (R) $CO$ has greater affinity for haemoglobin.

Breathing and Exchange of Gases

Solution:

Both Assertion and Reason are true and Reason is the correct explanation of Assertion.
Carbon monoxide combines with haemoglobin far readily as compared to oxygen, since, it has $200$ times greater affinity for Hb. As a result, carboxyhaemoglobin is formed which causes reduced transport of $O _{2}$ in body. As a result, nausea, suffocation and even death occurs.
