Q. Assertion (A) $7.5\, g$ of ethoxyethane and $9\, g$ of butan-1-ol is miscible to almost same extent while pentane is essentially immiscible with water.
Reason (R) Alcohols and ethers can form hydrogen bonds with the water molecule.

Alcohols Phenols and Ethers

Solution:

Ethoxyethane and butan-$1$-ol are miscible to almost the same extent, i.e. $7.5$ and $9\, g\, per \,100\, mL$ of water respectively while pentane is essentially immiscible with water. This is due to the fact that oxygen of either can form the hydrogen bond with the water molecule.
