Q. As temperature tends to zero, i.e. $T \rightarrow 0 K$

Kinetic Theory

Solution:

The prediction of specific heats, based on law of equipartition of energy, are independent of temperature. But as we go to low temperatures, there is a marked departure from this prediction. Specific heat of all substances approach zero as $T \rightarrow 0 K$. This is related to the fact that degrees of freedom get frozen and ineffective at low temperatures.
