As shown in the above figure, two strings and a bob system of length $l$ are maintained at an angle of $45^\circ $ with the horizontal and the system is in equilibrium in the vertical plane. Now, if the bob is slightly displaced normal to the plane of the strings, find the time-period of oscillation $T=?$

Solution:

The pendulum will oscillate in plane perpendicular to XY axis.
therefore, effective legth of oscillation is
$l_{e f f e c t i v e}$ = $\frac{l}{\sqrt{2}}$ and $g_{e f f e c t i v e}=g$
$T=2\pi \sqrt{\frac{l_{e f f e c t i v e}}{g_{e f f e c t i v e}}}$
$T=2\pi \sqrt{\frac{l_{}}{\sqrt{2} g}}$
