The fungus, which completes its life cycle on two unrelated hosts, it is known as heteroecious parasite, eg, wheat rusts. On the other hand the fungus, which completes its life cycle on a single host, is known as autoecious parasite. The species, which require two distinct types of mycelia to form zygospore are called heterothallic.
