Q. Aqueous solution of ferric chloride is acidic due to

UPSEEUPSEE 2008

Solution:

Hydrolysis of salt of strong acid and weak base like $NH_{4}Cl, CuSO_{4}, FeCl_{3}$ etc give the acidic solution
$FeCl_{3}$ is the salt of strong acid and weak base, hence hydrolysis of $FeCl_{3}$ gives acidic aqueous solution

In such cases water becomes acidic because $H^{+}$ concentration becomes more than $OH^{-}$ concentration. It is also known as cationic hydrolysis
