The ventricles consist of four hollow, fluid filled spaces inside the brain. The third ventricle consists of a narrow channel between the hemispheres through the area of the thalamus. It is connected by the cerebral aqueduct or aqueduct of Sylvius in the midbrain portion of the brainstem to the fourth ventricle in the pons and medulla.
