Q. Apparent weight of a body in an elevator is more than rest weight. If elevator is
(1) going up and slowing down
(2) going up and speeding up
(3) going down and speeding up
(4) going down and slowing down

Solution:

When lift is accelerated up, this implies that lift starts moving up or if moving upwards its velocity increases or if moving downwards its velocity decreases; then
$w_{\text{app}.}=w_{0}\left[1+\frac{a}{g}\right]$
When lift is accelerated down, this implies that the lift starts moving down or if in downward motion, its velocity increases or if in upward motion, its velocity decreases, then
$w_{\text{app.}}=w_{0}\left[1-\frac{a}{g}\right]$
