Delhi UMET/DPMTDelhi UMET/DPMT 2006

Solution:

The excretory system of crustacea (Palaemon) consists of a pair of antenary or green glands, a pair of lateral ducts and an unpaired renal or nephroperitoneal sac. Coxa of each antenna encloses an antennary gland. In Crustacea, the respiratory system is well developed and consists of lining of branchio stagites or gill covers, three pairs of epipodites and eight pairs of gills or branchiae. The Crustacea (Palaemon) has open (lacunar) type of blood vascular system. This type of blood vascular system is characterised by the absence of capillaries so that blood flow through open spaces. The digestion in crustacea takes place in alimentary canal which consists of foregut, midgut and hind gut.
