Q. Anhydrous ferric chloride is prepared by:

NTA AbhyasNTA Abhyas 2020The d-and f-Block Elements

Solution:

$\left(\right. 1 \left.\right)$ On heating we get $\text{FeCl}_{\text{2}}$ and $\text{Cl}_{\text{2}}$
$\left(\text{2}\right) \, \text{2Fe} + \left(\text{3Cl}\right)_{\text{2}} \rightarrow \left(\text{2FeCl}\right)_{\text{3}}$ (anhydrous);

$\left(\text{3}\right) \text{,} \left(\text{4}\right)$ do not give anhydrous $FeCl_{3}$ but give hydrated $FeCl_{3}$ .
