Anhydrous aluminium chloride $\left( Al _{2} Cl _{6}\right)$ is covalent compound and soluble in water giving $\left[ AlCl _{2}\left( H _{2} O \right)_{4}\right]^{+}$ and $\left[ AlCl _{4}\left( H _{2} O \right)_{2}\right]^{-}$ ions
