Q. An unpolarized light passes through three polarizing sheets whose polarizing directions make an angle of $30^{\circ}$, $60^{\circ}$ and $30^{\circ}$ with $y$ axis in same sense. The fraction of initial intensity is transmitted by the system is $\frac{k}{32}$. Find $k$.

Wave Optics

Solution:

$I =\frac{I_{0}}{2} \times \cos ^{2} 30^{\circ} \times \cos ^{2} 30^{\circ}$
$=\frac{9 I_{0}}{32}$
