Q. An inductor, a capacitor and a resistor are connected in series to an $AC$ supply. When measured with an $AC$ voltmeter, the potential difference across the inductor, capacitor and resistor are respectively $90\, V , 60\, V$ and $40\, V. $ Then the supply voltage is

Alternating Current

Solution:

$ V_{\text {supply }}^{2}=\left(V_{L}-V_{C}\right)^{2}+V_{R}^{2}$
$=(90 V -60 V )^{2}+(40 V )^{2}=(30 V )^{2}+(40 V )^{2}$
$\Rightarrow V=50 V$
