Q. An ideal gas is suddenly compressed to $\frac{1}{4}$ th of its initial volume. If the initial temperature of the gas is $27^{\circ} C$, then rise in temperature is $(\gamma=1.5)$

Solution:

$T V^{-1}=$ constant
$\frac{T_{2}}{T_{1}}=\left(\frac{V_{1}}{V_{2}}\right)^{\gamma-1}$
$\frac{T_{2}}{300}=(4)^{1.5-1}=2$
$T_{2}=600 \,K$
$\Delta T=600-300 $
$=300 \,K$
