Q. An ideal gas expands in volume from $1 \times 10^{-3} m ^{3}$ to $1 \times 10^{-2} m ^{3}$ at $300 \,K$ against a constant pressure of $1 \times 10^{5} Nm ^{-2}$. The work done is:

Solution:

Work done due to change volume against constant pressure:
$W=-P\left(V_{2}-V_{1}\right) $
$=-1 \times 10^{-5}\left(1 \times 10^{-2}-1 \times 10^{-3}\right) $
$=-900 \,Nm $
$=-900 \,J$
