Q. An electron with kinetic energy 5 eV is incident on a H-atom in its ground state. The collision

Work, Energy and Power

Solution:

In hydrogen atom $E_2 - E_1$ = 10.2eV. Since, energy difference is 10.2 eV, which is greater that kinetic energy 5 eV the electron excites the hydrogen atom, hence collision is elastic
