Q. An electric line of force in the x-y plane is given by the
equation $x^2+y^2 = 1.$ A particle with unit positive charge,
initially at rest at the point x = 1, y = 0 in the x-y plane, will
move along the circular line of force.

Solution:

Electric lines of force does not represent the path of the
charged particle but tangent to the path at any point on the
line shows the direction of electric force on it and it is not
always necessary that motion of the particle is in the
direction of force acting on it.
