Q. An aqueous solution contains $Fe^{3 +}$ , $Co^{2 +}$ , $Cu^{2 +}$ , $Pb^{2 +}$ and $As^{3 +}$ . Out of these, how many ions will produce white precipitate with dil. $HCl$ ?

Solution:

All the cations are divided into different groups according to inorganic qualitative analysis. $Ag^{+},Pb^{2 +},Hg_{2}^{2 +}$ etc. are belongs to group I cations. The group reagent is $dil.HCl$ .
$Pb^{2 +}$ ions give white ppt. of $PbCl_{2}$ with dil. $HCl$ .
