Q. An alternating emf is applied across a parallel combination of a resistance $R$, capacitance $C$ and an inductance $L$. If $I_{R}, I_{L}, I_{C}$ are the currents through $R, L$ and $C$, respectively, then the diagram which correctly represents the phase relationship among $I_{R}, I_{L}, I_{C}$ and source emf $E$, is given by

Alternating Current

Solution:

$I_{L}$ lags behind $I_{R}$ by a phase of $\pi / 2$ while $I_{C}$ leads by a phase of $\pi / 2$.
