Solution:

RCOCl reacts with $H_{2}O$ to release $Cl^{-}$ ions, which react with $AgNO_{3}$ to form $AgCl\left(s\right)$ , insoluble in $HNO_{3}$ . The acid forms a precipitate of RCOOAg, soluble in dil. $HNO_{3}$ .
