Q. Among $Me_3N, C_5H_5N$ and $MeCN$ ($Me$ = methyl group) the electronegativity of $N$ is in the order

Solution:

$\because$ In $Me _{3} N \rightarrow N$ is $s p^{3}$-hybrid

In $C _{5} H _{5} N \rightarrow N$ is $s p^{2}$-hybrid

and in $MeCN \rightarrow N$ is $s p$-hybrid
Also electronegativity of any element $\alpha \%$ $s$-character in hybrid orbitals.
Thus, order of electronegativity for nitrogen is
$MeCN > C _{5} H _{5} N < Me _{3} N$
