In this reaction, when an amide is heated with an aqueous solution of $ KOH $ and $ B{{r}_{2}}, $ it gives a primary amine with one carbon atom less. $ RCON{{H}_{3}}+B{{r}_{2}}+4KOH\xrightarrow{\Delta }RN{{H}_{2}}+2KBr $ $ +{{K}_{2}}C{{O}_{3}}+2{{H}_{2}}O $
