SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED DISEASES (STDs):
The diseases which are primarily transmitted through sexual intercourse are called sexually transmitted diseases (STD) or venereal diseases (VD) or reproductive tract infection (RTI). STDs are found across all age groups but are more prevalent in an organism of age 15-24 years.
PREVENTION FROM STDs:
1) Avoiding multiple sexual contacts.
2) Avoid coitus with multiple partners.
3) Sexually active persons should consult doctors regularly to avoid any complications.
4) Using condoms during sexual intercourse with risk partners.
AIDS, Genital Herpes and Hepatitits B are incurable STDs. Some of the sexually transmitted diseases are as follows:
GENITAL HERPES:
Genital herpes is caused due to infection of Herpes Simplex Virus. Symptoms include vesicular lesions followed by clusters of painful erythematous ulcers over external genitalia and perianal regions. In females the symptoms are more severe which includes fever, headache, pain, itching vaginal and urethral discharge, with tender inguinal lymphadenopathy. Infections can occur in the urethra and cervix. It is an incurable disease.
