Solution:

The aldol condensation reaction takes place when the carbonyl compound like aldehyde and ketone has an alpha hydrogen. This reaction takes place in a mild basic medium.
The alpha hydrogen is just adjacent to the carbonyl group. The alpha hydrogen is generally with the $sp^{3}-C$ , which is adjacent to the carbonyl group.
Here, $HCHO$ does not have an alpha hydrogen to show the aldol condensation reaction.
