Q. Air is filled in a bottle at atmospheric pressure and it is corked at $35 \,{}^\circ C$ . If the cork can come out at a pressure $3 \, $ times the atmospheric pressure, then up to what temperature should the bottle be heated in order to remove the cork?

Solution:

We know that, $p_{1}V=nRT_{1}$
$\Rightarrow 1\times V=nR\left(35 + 273\right)$
$=nR\times 308$ ....(i)
and $p_{2}V=nRT_{2}$
$\Rightarrow \, \, 3\times V=nRT_{2}$ ....(ii)
On dividing Equation (ii) by Equation (i), we get
$3=T_{2} / 308$
$\Rightarrow \, T_{2}=924 \, K$
$T_{2}=924-273$
$=651^\circ C$
