Q. Addition of arsenic in small amounts to pure germanium will result in the formation of

Solution:

Arsenic in a group 15 element having '5' valence electrons. When arsenic is added to germanium, only four of five electrons involved in bonding. The remaining fifth electron remains loosely held with arsenic atom. Thus, each arsenic atom has one loosely held electron, which acts as charge carrier to form n-type semiconductor.
