Oswald and Tippo classified plants into Thallophyta (embryo stage absent) and Embryophyta (plants with embryo). Thallophyta included algae and fungi. Embryophyta was further divided into Bryophyta (plants without vascular tissues) and Tracheophyta (plants with vascular tissues). Tracheophyta included pteridophytes, gymnosperms and angiosperms.
